News 12 New Jersey's Kimberly Kravitz toured downtown Newark on Friday, highlighting local businesses.
The vegan cafe serves plant-based food and beverages in a relaxed, artsy atmosphere. Co-owner Rashena Burrows said she feels "amazing" after being vegan for over 30 years and running a business in Newark for decades.
Manager Roger Leandro said the fish market has been in business for nearly 80 years, making it the oldest store on Ferry Street. The popular shop offers an array of fresh seafood options.
Clothing designer Marco Hall has dressed stars like Queen Latifah on red carpets. Hall said Newark has "given me a home" and allowed him to hone his design skills over the past 10 years.
Married couple Rashena Burrows and Allen Watson own the vegan cafe and water gym located next door to each other. Watson said it's a "dream" to open wellness businesses in his hometown.
Co-owners Derrick Wright and Walter Green touted their restaurant's 13 signature wing sauces. They said they've been serving up mouth-watering wings in Newark for over 40 years.
Twin brothers Renaldo and Rafael Blanco run the longtime barbershop founded by their father in 1972. They said they've "taken it to another level" while evolving the business over the decades.
The New Jersey videographer and filmmaker said the state is a "great place to be creative" and capture the growing film industry.
