Here we are on another Friday and for this week's main street, New Jersey, we're in Passaic County in Pompton Lakes are Lauren do is highlighting local businesses there. And first up Lauren, you know, I, I, we're starting with a bagel. Of course, of course, you start the bagel and you got to start up with hot coffee. Look at all these Christmas decorations here where Goldberg bl and Deli happy holidays from PM. The LA. That's where we are rosy. You have your little Christmas set up here. I mean, you're ready to go for the holiday. Yes, I am. And the holiday actually Christmas is my favorite season of the year. It was, I was a little girl back in my country in Ecuador. Uh I came here 22 years ago and I all my life, I've been working in a bega store. So this is the place to come. I invite to everybody in New Jersey to come to Gober's famous Vegas in Bampton Lakes, New Jersey. We have a homemade real Bels, what are the best in the town? And I invite everybody to come and try my bagels. I gotta ask what's Alago I've never heard of that. Ok. So Alago is technically a flat bagel for people like us, just like to get a couple extra pounds. So it's less dough on it. And that is what a Lego is. And I like that. You have a lot of people here. So who do you have here this morning? I mean, it's very early. Yes, it is early in the morning and this is a family owned business. So, here's my mom. She is with me too and I have my son too. Uh, and this is, uh Jesus Chuy. He is the, the, the grill guy. He is the, the one who makes the eggs and the bacon for everybody in the morning. I, I just wanna come hang out with your family all morning. Right. Yes. Yes. I'm with my family all day long at work and at home and everything is great. Everything is working awesome. What's the secret? The secret is, you know, first of all, I think respecting everybody and loving each other. We are a family, you know, uh, a Spanish family. Um, we are very traditional. We care about each other all the time and that I think that's a secret, you know, like every family and the whole entire world wants to be with the relator and, and be happy. So sweet. Yes. What are your hours? We open six o'clock in the morning to three o'clock except for Sundays that we close at two. What are your plans for Christmas? Even if the store is not open? I wanna know about your family. No, we are gonna be open for Christmas. Yes, we are open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Christmas Day. We open to noon because we have a lot of people, you know, they travel, they come from other states and they wanna try a New Jersey bagel. So we're gonna be here on Christmas Day, uh having bagels and breakfast for all the families. Goldberg's bagel and Deli open until like if you're looking to get a bagel on Christmas day. What are you doing to celebrate Christmas though? Well, we celebrate Christmas Eve. That's our traditional in my country. So we get everybody together. We're gonna have like a 2530 people at my house with a bunch of kids and we wait until midnight to open the presents. I'm coming over. Yes, of course. It's gonna be a lot of food. Yes, it's gonna be a lots of food. Always bagels there. No bels and die. Bels will be for Christmas day. Bagels the other day, Rosie. Thank you so much, Jesus, your mom. Yes, we made it to Friday and for this week's main street, New Jersey, we in Passaic County in Pompton Lakes. News from New Jersey's Lauren do is covering local businesses this morning. And of course, Lauren, what comes after a bagel but barbecue, why not? Of course, it goes perfectly for the morning. We got Greg the owner here. Ok. We smoke shack. How do you make good barbecue in New Jersey? Good morning. I've heard that question a lot, believe it or not. So, the answer is a lot of bad barbecue. I learned in, in college many, many years ago and it took a lot of bad barbecue to get here, but we think we've got it right for the last seven years or so. And, and we've been here in this location in Pomp and for about three. so we've, we've just love being a part of the community and, and putting out good barbecue now as we were talking about before a lot of practice. But, uh it's been great. We, we love being here and you made some barbecue this morning. We do, what have we got what we got going on. So, these are two of our um specialty sandwiches. These are very big sellers for us. Uh This is our three little pigs. You have pork, belly pulled pork and bacon and that's on a brioche roll with steer sauce. And then we also have our dirty bird. This is our biggest selling uh biggest selling specialty sandwich. So we have our fried chicken chopped brisket, onion rings and steer sauce. This uh this, we have trouble keeping in house. People love it. And then of course, you know, we have AAA ton of other stuff here on the menu. But a lot of uh a lot of our core menu items, pulled pork, barbecue, brisket and chicken there. You can find it in almost everything. How do you go about eating that? Do you cut it or do you take one big old bite? So everybody their own way. Um A lot of people just go at it. A lot of other folks will cut it and a lot of other people just kind of pick at it with the fork. We also have a feed bag which we didn't make this morning, but a feed bag is basically everything you see here. Plus some and in uh in our other locations, we have a couple of locations in Florida, uh and a food trailer. We have a bird out there. They're down there and we have a, so we have one in Royal Palm Beach and one in Del Ray Beach and the feedback challenge. Uh, it's about a £2 sandwich and if you eat it with the sides, your picture and name goes up on the wall, down in Del Rey next to the, next to the bar. So it's pretty cool. That sounds like a challenge. Hey, but you know what you need in a good barbecue place, you need to have the napkins right on the table. It's very important. We've, we've picked up a lot of barbecue sauce off the floor and cleaned a lot off the table napkins, don't do it. So, we've moved to the, to the paper towels that served us quite well. It's main street, New Jersey on a Friday. And this week we are in Passaic County in Pompton Lakes. Yes. And Lauren do has had bagels and barbecue so far. And Lauren, you must be fueled up by now. Where are you now? Well, now we're at a barber shop called the shop. How did I do, Greg? Ours are the bagel shop. The shop. Perfect. So, ok. So how do you say it? I say the shop, the shop and you got news playing in the background every morning. So, what time are you open? We're here? 8 to 7, Monday to Friday, 8 to 5 on Saturdays and 8 to 3 on Sundays. So, from what everyone's telling me that it's hard to get a spot in here because you're so famous around town. I wouldn't go that far. But you know, we, we do a lot of volume. I got eight great barbers here. So we, we, we're pretty busy. Why do you think you're so busy and so popular around town? Uh We give quality work at a good price. I mean, this looks really nice. And Scott the photographer Scott, by the way, give yourself a shout out Scott. Say hi. He walked in, he, he recognized he was like, this smells amazing. That's, that's uh the, the world famous clubman aftershave, which is, which is what we have in, in all these uh aftershave guns. So that's, that's 100 year old uh formula that they haven't changed because my grandpa used the same aftershave. He was a barber. So we, we try to stick to that traditional stuff, traditional, but this looks really new. I love the design and the chairs and everything. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, it's a modern feel with a rustic look. Yeah. And then the waiting room too is pretty impressive. Thank you. And then when you go on Google, there's a, there's a picture of a bathroom. Your bathroom is really nice in here. Yes, it is. You all like the bathroom. So what makes this place such a great spot? Uh, a combination of the camaraderie between the barbers and our great clients. I mean, we have baby, we got babies and we got 90 year old men and everything in between and we just really appreciate the support from a large group of people. Oh, we have the music going. So we made it to Friday. Yes. And this is Main Street. We're in Passaic County in Pompton Lakes, New New Jersey's lower end due is, uh, had some bagels and barbecue and now it's time for some books here. Yes. Yes. That's what we're doing. Nick Station. One books and vinyl. So, keep that music playing or with Daniel here. Ok. So what is this playing? Oh, we're a vintage shop. Um, we started out as a bookstore and, um, very quickly became a functional record store. Although we do still have plenty of books and we've expanded to video games, cameras, VHS tapes a little bit of everything. I love this. This is like a trip down memory lane. Right. Exactly. And I love this because you have, what's your price point for all these records too? So, I mean, they range, we have a very healthy dollar bin. Um, and we have $3 bins and then we have, I'd say our new arrivals section, a lot of the classic rock, things like that. 5 to $10. Um, then we have better things on the wall, you know, collectibles and we have sealed records. We, you know, bring in Taylor Swift because obviously we can't find that used. Um, you know, those go from like 30 to $40 or actually 20 to 40. Yeah. Can we? Well, speaking of trip down memory lane, can you show us how, uh, actually goes on a record player? Right? Like people that might not know about this. Well, let's play a holiday, let's play a holiday record. IV. I, this is like a, like that was one of the biggest surprise was VHS. There is a core group of VHS collectors. Um, there you go. Yeah, we'll just put this on, that's it. Make sure the line's good. So, we're playing the Elf soundtrack. I don't know. Not very familiar with the soundtrack. We'll see. Hopefully it's appropriate, I think. No, I think I would think. There you go. Wow. I mean, what was the last time you saw that? You know, if you're not a collector? Exactly. It's, um, you know, it brings back a lot of memories and it's very magical for little kids. Uh I've had that experience here a few times where I've put a record on for a kid and they're just standing there, like, staring at it. I mean, a little kid and then you flip it over and I'm like, do you want to hear the other side? And like, there's another side? It's so funny. I love it. Wait, can we go outside? Real quick and I really want to show off this location too because this is huge. You got a really nice place here. This is great. I mean, you actually have a train. Yes, I do have a train. Um look at this, you came with the building and there's our Sonic youth poster in the window and the to the town was nice enough to put a wreath on it. Yeah, for sure. This is a must stop ad I think for sure if you, if you have records to sell or anything you can, you can come in. That's really what keeps the store going. Another main street, New Jersey here on a Friday. And this morning we're in Passaic County in Pumpin Lakes. And Lauren is this next place? It's all about your pets, right? All about it. Look at this, Dara Nick. I mean, anything you could possibly dream of for your pets. We have Sam, we have Jennifer, we have Lynn, love the matching vest, by the way. I love this life. Thank you. So, what's going on here? What do you sell? Oh, we sell, uh, we sell tons of stuff for pets. We're, uh, we're gearing up for the holiday season. We got tons of stuff for Christmas. Uh, you know, anything that you guys want for cats and dogs and small animals. So this is our store. We got three locations, one in Morris Plains and another one in West Caldwell. And we hear in Pompton Lakes, this is so great because sometimes when, when you are buying gifts for people, you don't know what to do and they have pets. You're like, where do I go? This is the, this is the spot. All our locations have tons of Christmas stuff. So we, we're geared up and we're ready to go to sell for the Christmas Eve. All right. Well, let's walk around and let's see what we have because my eyes immediately were drawn to these doughnuts here. I love that. Yeah. Got a lot of great treats. Um, doughnuts, uh, all holistic, uh, foods. We got, uh, all whole foods, uh, nothing with corn, wheat and soy in it. So, really good stuff healthy for your pets. Yeah. You know, look at all of this, I mean, these shells are filled and Jen, I know you were stocking those shells right last night for this. We were making sure everything's nice full inviting to everybody again. Like you said, if people are going to people's houses for the holidays and they have a pet, they have to bring something for their fur babies as well. What do you guys here? You offer the adoptions, right? Or the the what do you do on the weekend? Every weekend? We have adoption events. There are certain rescues that we partner with. Um, they come in once a month. We have cat rescues, dog rescues. We always collect donations for them. So every sale we try to add on the donation. That's a great spot. That's a great thing that you guys do. And then you also have dog washing back there too. Pompton Lakes, right in the logo. We got the South wash stations here and at our West Caldwell location, we also have a groomer here and we have a groomer in our Mars Plains locations. So does this place get pretty busy? Oh, yeah. Yeah, it, it gets packed and loud. A lot of dogs are coming in. We, you know, everybody's welcome dogs, pets, everyone. So we love, we love interacting with folks in their, in their pets. So that's what we do here. So, and we also do uh local delivery. So if you guys, if anybody needs local deliveries, they could go on our website. Um, my hometown.com, you could order, we deliver. Well, we made it to Friday and for this week's main street, New Jersey, we are in Passaic County up in Pump Lakes News. 12, New Jersey's Lauren do is covering local businesses there. And Lauren, you're at a hard work. Ok. So, first of all, we have to trade these rakes in pretty soon to be snow shovels. At least they got the sleds here. We at all and, and true value hardware and paint shop and more here is the second generation are here. Right. Right. So, your dad started this all my mom, my dad 43 years ago, over 40 years here. I mean, this is pretty. Should we go inside and everybody inside this is, I mean, if you need any less, a traditional hardware store, Christmas stuff, let's see. Let's see who's inside this morning. There's the original, so who's here this morning? So, we got my dad Madeleine Jenny and, uh, Jeff. Jeff didn't make it in this morning. Why not? Jeff's not the earliest morning guy, but tell Jeff good morning, but he'll be here this afternoon. Ok. I love a good hardware shop. I mean, I'm not very handy, but I can, I can appreciate some paint, some paint chips and everything. So, Rick Madeleine, you guys started this 43 years ago. We opened in 1981. We had three sons and thought, ok, hardware is a good way to go. So that's when we've been here ever since. Yeah. And what's your favorite part about running all this, the variety of food? So, we go from paint to hardware, to pipes and plumbing electric. And it's obviously very popular because we've been here, you know, for a couple of minutes now and the door, the bell keeps going up. Everyone keeps coming in. Actually, there's somebody in the back right now helping himself because we're busy with you. And you're the store manager here. Are you? I just promoted you. Oh, thank you. She's been here for 18 years. What's your favorite part about being here? Oh, the customers are very nice. And, um, it's a great hardware store, old fashioned mom and pop. I mean, you have everything you can possibly dream of everything. And you got Benjamin Moore Pain that, I mean, that's pretty popular and everyone painting, I love, I honestly, I go everywhere and I love, I love a good paint chip. You know, look at this, I mean, painting my house looks like a pretty, always paint projects to do. I love it. Yes, we made it to Friday and for this week's main street, New Jersey, we're in Passaic County in Pump in Lake, busy morning for news from New Jersey's Lauren do from B to barbecue. Even a hardware store. All right, Lauren, what's next? Got to show some love for the Ponton Lakes Cardinal with Steve here. And I mean, this is a pretty great, it is. It's perfect center of town right at the crosswalk. It's a, it's a perfect spot. Perfect town. So perfect that you have a puppy pit stop and a wall of fame going on here. That's right. So we have people walking their dogs all day, all night. We set this up maybe 15 years ago. The, the owners love it. The dogs own it. I mean, love it. And hey, Mark, and it's a, and it's a great thing and they come, they send me pictures. I take pictures and we put them on the, uh, the wall, the window effect. See if you're a great guy. We wish everyone the great business that you have inside. Sounds good. It's not even about the dogs. That's right. Let's go inside Scott. Come on. In. Let's go. Let's follow, step in here. I mean, as Randolph Rams, I can tell you this. Cardinal is like a field hockey player. I remember seeing them be like, no, they're so good and they would crush us every year. Yeah. Yeah. Well, Randolph baseball team used to crush us all the time in the Little League. I don't know how it is now. But, um, yeah, so you do everything here. We kind of do everything. So we work with, um, a lot of, um, little leagues. A lot of recreation groups, schools, travel teams, uh, private businesses. People come in, they're painters, they're landscapers, they're electricians and they do clothing as well. Um, biggest part of it is the sporting part, uh, sporting goods and the screen printing spirit wear. We just love it. Yeah, the varsity jackets down there too. I love that. You throw in the varsity jackets. So, what, what are you the most known for around here? What, what is your favorite thing to do? I think? Favorite thing and what we're known for is our personalized service. So people go online, they can't get the service. They go to the big box stores. They can't get the service, but they come here at home field advantage. They know when they come here. So if they look and their softball, softball gloves, baseball gloves, we have such a selection. They may not be able to choose. They take out four or five we have a catch right in the hall, right in the aisle here so they can test them to see how which one feels. Best. Trial and error. They end up walking out with the one that fits best for them. What do you say? Me and you, we go have a catch, ok. This one time only go Cardinals.
