It is Friday and time for main street, New Jersey, our Lauren de in Bayonne this morning highlighting a local businesses and in True Jersey fashion. Lauren, you're starting at a diner. Of course, we are Simon Nick. We're right on Broadway at the Broadway diner. You have to stop here when you're in Bayon. We got Janet Coviello and Janet. This place looks amazing. But you're telling me you've been in business for a very long time since 1969. The Broadway diner has been open and it's family owned for over 40 years, which is our family and um, we just finished re re uh renovation, which we still have a little odds and ends to do, but we are just finishing up. It looks amazing. You kept the old school vibe and everything, but looks brand new. It looks amazing. Home of the world's best pancake, home of the world's best pancakes, serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and we have our cocktails, any cocktail you want. So it's amazing, especially this early. Yes. Yes, I guess who else we have here? We have the mayor Dave, uh Jimmy Davis here from Bayon. And what makes your city so great. What makes our city so great is our small businesses because they are the backbone of every city and there is what give each city its character and its vibe. And the, the Broadway diner is no different than any other. And the Broadway diner has like two different vibes. You wanna take us in the back and show us what's going on because this is a separate because you can have a diner and then you can also do parties. You said you just did one last night. Yes. So this is the Broadway diner and, and then we are also this, by the way, we are also renovating the chandelier and the chandeliers are catering hall which we just are doing over. Look at this, look at this. I love the so we did the bar. So the bar, everything is gonna be we're all renovating. This is one room that we just finished renovating. Hey, Chuck, follow us over here. This is so creepy. Chuck is going this way. I mean there's so many rooms here. Yes, there is a lot of room. So this is one of the rooms that we just finished renovating and I love the marble floor. Thank you for coming this morning. Exactly. What's good here as well. Listen, Cafe Bell has been here since the last 30 years, since 1992. I mean, it's a very casual place when you say fine dining. We have fine dining food but in a very casual atmosphere. So I have our jeans. No problem. Let we go inside. Let's go. Let's go inside. Let's go check it out. I love this, the doors and everything. All right. Thank you so much. Come on in here, Chuck. Look at this. You got the bar going this morning. We have Lorenzo. Everyone knows Lorenzo, by the way, right? Everyone knows I got Phil. Phil. He made us some pizza this morning. Look at this we got here like five minutes ago. You didn't have this, you just whipped this up. This is great. So, I mean, um, we specialize in, uh, northern cuisine. I mean, we have our pizzas as one of our staples. But, um, a full line kitchen. Um, Lorenzo has been with us for years but I mean, between our appetizers, our entrees, our daily specials, I can tell you that, um, every day we're creating something different. That's awesome. Hey, you know what can I take a piece to go? And I wanna show you on the outside because we have a minute, I'm gonna take a piece to go and then, uh, let's go. Let's go on the outside because you also do the outside. We have one minute and I told them, well, we're gonna get a lot done. So I'm gonna eat this as we go. Ok. Joy, that girl. So am I wrong? All right. So Tom, take us down the alleyway and show us, tell us what we're gonna go see. So the down the alley, I mean, what we've done is during before, right before or during COVID, we decided that hey, we need to expand the operations, have a little bit more outdoors between our outdoors in the front and our outdoors out back. We created an area back here which it's like the hide out for our customers. Um, everyone comes and the first time you come, you wind up always wanting to sit back here. So what we've done is we created a space in the back to allow people to feel like they're inside. Um But they're being outside. Um Lorenzo is here too. Lorenzo's everywhere. We made it to Friday. That means it's time for Main Street, New Jersey. And our Lauren Dee is taking a break from food just in time for back to school. You're showing us a place that sells uniforms. Exactly, tight and tactical. And I think this is what people at home probably don't know is that Bay own students have to wear uniforms. And in their school district there's like 10,000 students and you know, where they're all coming through right here, they're talking to Leanne and they're talking to Victor Pino. Ok. This is a great shop and you're saying that you have really good quality stuff. It looks great on you. Thank you very much. Yes, we care very much about the quality of our uniforms. We wanna make sure that the kids are comfortable and it's affordable for the parents. We're, uh, all about handing me down our clothes. I love that. Yes. And the parents do too. So it's one less piece of uniform that they have to buy. Um, that's what we strive for to make sure that the kids look good. It's quality products that the parents are paying for a product that's going to last, that they can wash, that's going to wash well. And then at the end of the year, if they have a child that they can give it to, then they can pass it on to the child. And so what grades do you do? It looks like you got a little bit of everything going on here. We do pre K four all the way up to seniors in high school. So, and are people excited? Are the kids excited when they come through the doors? I don't know how kids are to go back to school, but I think some of the parents are pretty excited to go for the kids to go back to school. So, you know, and it's both of them and, and we, uh the best thing is that when we see a kid come in with a parent that's tiny and then year after year they come here and we see them grow uh from a little child to all the way to a senior in high school. And then we ask them, you know what they do next or are they going to high where they're going to college next? What they're doing? So, um, a lot of the parents, you know, they, um they like to come here and they like to talk with us. We get very personal with them and um, it gets beyond being a customer. It's like our, our customers end up being our family. I love that because they do have to come here year after year. And thanks for opening up early for us because I know you're in the thick of it right now. This is it the before the, you might say, well, Bayon, they started on Wednesday. All right, we head back to Bayonne this morning for Main Street, New Jersey. Our Lauren de has been checking out some local businesses and this morning she's checking out a meat market. Lauren. Ok. So we're at 22nd Street Meat Market and just give you an idea of where we are. We're right on Avenue C in between 22nd street and 21st street, of course. Ok. So we're going to do a little bit of a blast in the past year. Ok. So I want everyone to look at the sign, the 22nd meat market. All right, looks like it was established in 1964. Now, I want you to come to this price solo steaks, $8.99 a pound. So let's go on in and see what it cost back in the day. Right? We have the owners here. We got Mark, we have, we all in this morning and by the way, they're not open until eight o'clock, which in my opinion, eight o'clock guys, that's kind, that's kind of early to open up a meat market over here. And, uh, what, what, what I love about this this morning is that you gave me a cheat sheet. So we get all the questions in and Louie. You're saying that the history and the longevity of this place is what you're known for. Yes. What do you? We've been in business for over 65 years and we are offering the people that they own quality meats at affordable prices. And we try to emphasize customer service. That's a very important part of our business here. And Mark, you're saying that this goes deep into generations for your family. My grandfather started it in the fifties. Then my father took over and then I took over and now my son works here and Louie's son works here also. And also because you care about your customers, the customers keep on coming back, right? You get generations and for the holidays too, right? They've moved out. But, uh, on a special occasion, they'll make their trip into Bayonne to get us a rib roast or a special, uh, seasoned pork roast and they can come hang out with you guys. Ok. I teased it before but I want everyone. What it looks like. This is what it looked like. This is in the fifties right across the street. And did you guess it? Sirloin steaks? 89 cents a pound. Mark. We have Frank with Pompeii pizza. We have Jackie with the city. We have Adam, he's a police officer here. So I think we should all good morning, everyone. I think we should just sit around at pizza for breakfast. What do you say? Right. I think that's a good idea. I mean, this is like such a great way to spend the day in Bayonne this morning. So, you're welcome. I'm so free. How long have you guys been in business? A very long time. A very long time. This is the oldest pizzeria in Bayonne over 60 years and uh very proud and happy to serve the people of Bayon. Been great to us. Thank you very much. And you were saying that the equipment is the original equipment, original equipment. Um They don't make them like they used to. Yes, still around. So, and what's the secret? I love this. It's so thin. The secret is so cheesy. Uh very fresh ingredients, fresh dough every day. Good sauce, good cheese and a lot of love. I love being by the wrong folders too. You fold your pizza? Yes. That is the only way to do it. Exactly. And what I love about coming to all these Bay own businesses is that every business showcases their family. How important is your family to you? Oh, they are everything to me. They, um, help support me and, and they allow me to do what I love to do every day. So, thanks to them and you love your customers. Do you have a huge menu over here? And you're telling me you make fresh calzones. Yes. Calzones, wraps pizza. You got, you name it, we got it. So, and you make everything basically fresh, right? You walk in and fresh stuff made on the spot right in front of you. This is awesome and this is the same spot since 1961. That's crazy. And all the equipment is in the same spot and we're just chowing down on pizza here. Same location. Anything else you want to add? I mean, we're just hanging out, uh, Dave Portnoy waiting for you. Main street, New Jersey this morning takes us to Bayonne. Our Lauren de is there highlighting local businesses. Now she had breakfast, pizza for breakfast. Rather let's do some shopping now. Lauren, let's do it because I have pretty much the flashiest business, right? I think that we've ever gonna see. Ok, so VJ C's boutique. And you're saying all this started with a light up tutu and a million dreams. We have Vicky, we have Joy, the owners here. Ok? So show us what this light up tutu is all about. You go. Oh, ok. From settings like come on. Who wouldn't want to light up tutu for their kid for their birthday party? I think every little girl watching right now is you and Vicky? You were saying this started, you were in Disney. Yep. Yep. We made one of these for my God daughter, Joy's daughter for our trip to Disney because we were afraid we're gonna lose her in the dark. And everybody kept asking us where we got and I was like we made them and then our husband said you guys need to open a business, start making these and start selling them. So that's what we did. And here you are, four years later, made it through COVID, which is incredible and it actually grew. We, we did, we did, we had to close down. Um Right. We, we were only open six months before we had to close down and we just started doing live sales and on Facebook and just working hard and making customs and delivering, delivering all over my own and, and Jersey City and Hoboken to all our great customers that stood by us during that time, which was a very difficult time for everybody. Um Yeah, and we grew our business through that and then had to actually move to a bigger space and your husband's very supportive. Ok. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they have our backs 100%. It's so, and you do Facebook live every Friday, right? So 88 o'clock. Ok. So give us a little demo real quick. Ok. Like what's one product that you wanna sell? Give us a little Facebook demo because you do the cricket. You custom make anything I know was going crazy over this. We're getting ready for our Halloween. Halloween is big around here. It is. We did these, these are our tie. Um We do everything custom here. So we design this, we have all these special little secret machines, you know that print design, cut everything and then we press them on the shirts ourselves. But so we have all sorts of different sizes, different designs. Of course, we got the kids too because you know, Mommy and me sometimes like to match. That's our favorite there. She's been highlighting local businesses and she's at a dance studio right now where there are so many dancers with her. It looks like so much fun. Lauren. So much fun. It makes me want to be a dancer. Look how cute these girls are this morning. We love it. They're bringing the energy, Diana. You're also bringing the energy too this morning, Chris. Good morning, New Jersey, New Jersey. Ok. So how long have you been in the studio? Dance with me? Dance studio. Actually our 20th year, we're so excited. All the girls are ready to dance. We start September 13th. Ok. So we still have a few more days to sign up. We're ready to rock. Uh We teach everything, tap ballet, jazz, hip hop acrobatics and the girls are just so excited. So they're looking for so many opportunities and friends to dance with. Do you do the dancer at the end with all the costumes and everything? Like every year we do a big show in June. The kids love it sparkly costumes. Lots of makeup and competition competition as well. You do several competitions a year, lots of opportunities for performances. So exciting and Diana. Diana tell you about your dance background because you were just like talking to me and you just dropped your dance with J Lo. Yeah, I definitely did a lot of commercial stuff in my life and that's kind of my background. So I love to get girls moving. That's my jam. Can you still dance? I can still bust a move. I love it. So do you like, do you love being in the Bayonne community? Inspiring all these young people? Yeah, this is a great community. I definitely recommend it for young families. We got a few people hanging out this morning. We have Michelle Bird, Director of Race here. Hi, Michelle. So tell us about things. Well, winners they own. We're owned by the Meadowlands Race track, but this is a place where you can come and bet on horse racing. You can watch sports. You can have a, a good bit. Um, I mean, great food to eat it. Really have a good margarita. He's a bloody mary. Yes, that's a bloody mary. Um, look at him. Oh, what did he get? Yes, a burger at early in the morning, you know. So, yeah, so you, so Winne Bay is, like I said, is one of them great places that you can come and enjoy yourself for the day. Have some nice gambling. Um, meet some nice friends. Have a nice meal, just, you know, great, good old time. And like, what are the hours, how do you do that? Open at 11 in the morning? And we are closed at 11 a.m. PM on weekdays and 12:12 a.m. on the weekend. So you should go over to one of the tellers and, and show us how it's done. How does it, how does it all work and, you know, we, oh, Georgia, they're all hanging out over there talking. Yeah, they, they're hanging out, that's what they're doing this morning. So, ok. So you go to the teller and what do you, what do you, you place a bet morning? We'll have one of our customers come by and place a bet. So, this is the voucher over here. Al the voucher is where you, you give me money, I'll give you a voucher that way you can play in the self service machines if you like, or you could bet at the window here and I give you a ticket for the race. Do you bet yourself? Do I bet I'm not allowed to be when you're off hours, when I'm off hours. Is it fun? It's a lot of fun. I think it's really nerve wracking too. We got the, the customers over here. You guys like doing this? I love it. You love it. I'm retired. So, this is my place of business. Yeah. Get a little to get a lot Oh, that's a great philosophy.
