(11/10/06) BAYONNE - Lingerie-manufacturer Maidenform announced Friday it will shut down its longtime Bayonne home this spring in favor of a more modern facility.
The bra and lingerie producer will move all 250 Bayonne employees to the new location in Woodbridge Corporate Plaza. For 81 years Maidenform set up shop there, at one point providing jobs to the majority of the town. Residents say the company's departure will bring historic and economic change to Bayonne. After several decades of manufacturing, including a stint during WWII making vests for soldiers, the old facility is mostly used for sales and design.
According to company executives, the move will take place in either April or May of 2007.
