The pet industry is booming in East Rutherford and beyond, and it's not just about food—toys are a major player in the multibillion-dollar market.
In today's "Made in New Jersey," Mark Hirschberg, president of Multipet, shares how his nearly 30-year-old company has evolved with changing pet trends.
According to a Pew Research study, 97% of pet owners consider their furry friends family, driving Americans to spend roughly $150 billion on their pets last year, per the American Pet Products Association. Hirschberg said Multipet focuses on unique products, with one standout success being Lamb Chop, a toy dogs treat like their own pet and a sensation on TikTok.
Started by his grandparents with handmade leather dog toys, Multipet remains a family business, with Hirschberg's three children, including 31-year-old Dean, the vice president of marketing, now involved.
