The bank robber known as the ?Mad Hatter? has struck again.
The man, who wears different hats to the bank robberies, has alluded police since September. Authorities say the robber has hit 13 banks over the past eight months in Union, Morris and Essex counties. The latest incident happened at the Commerce Bank on Chestnut Street in Union Thursday.
?It?s a situation where he?s in and out so quickly that it?s difficult to catch him unless you happen to be at the bank at the same time,? said Union County Prosecutor Ted Romankow. He also keeps his head down during the robberies, so the surveillance cameras don?t have a good shot of his face
According to police, the man doesn?t ask for large amounts of cash. So far, he has stolen under $60,000.
There is a $10,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest of the ?Mad Hatter.?
