The mayor of Long Branch says pop-up parties must end and is taking steps to prevent them from happening again in the shore city
Mayor John Pallone says these mass gatherings - like the one that happened Saturday - lead to violent behavior and threaten the public safety.
Pallone also says his police department knows who is responsible for the promotion and plans on prosecuting them.
The mayor's words came as a new flyer spread on social media Monday, advertising the next party in Long Branch for the weekend of June 19 and again prompting attendees to bring their own marijuana and alcohol.
Pallone says the city is working with NJ Transit to prevent allowing thousands of people to be let off a train all at once. Additionally, he said smoking marijuana and drinking in public are illegal in the city, and called on Gov. Phil Murphy for assistance in putting an end to these pop-up events.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden yesterday called for a change to the policy that limits how much police can question minors who are suspected to be in possession of marijuana and alcohol.
Fifteen arrests were made on Saturday, mostly for disorderly conduct.
