Police: Person of interest in Roselle double homicide arrested in Maryland
A person of interest connected to a double homicide in Roselle has been arrested in Maryland, according to Maryland state police.
Officials say that Everoy Morrison, 44, was arrested around 4 p.m. Wednesday near Interstate 695 in Baltimore County.
As News 12 New Jersey has been reporting, a mother and her 9-year-old daughter were found dead inside a home on Seventh Avenue and Pine Street Wednesday afternoon in Roselle.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office has not released many details about the deaths. But family members of those killed identified them as Keisha Morrison and her daughter, Kelsey Morrison. Kelsey would have turned 10 in just a few days.
Atasha Scott, a relative of the Morrison family, says that Everoy Morrison has been ordered the leave the home and that he killed Keisha and Kelsey with an ax.
Maryland state police say that they were contacted by the Roselle Police Department regarding the homicide. They say that the investigation involved a stolen 2019 silver BMW 750. Police say that this is the vehicle that Everoy Morrison was driving when he was arrested.
Neighbors in Roselle say they were shocked at the commotion as police removed bags of evidence from the home. They say that they're not used to this kind of activity on their street.
“It's been hectic here. So many drive past, looking, trying to see what's going on,” says Joan Ayers, who lives across the street. “I’ve seen a lot of cops. They didn't take the people out until late and one officer came over to ask me for footage from the door cam.”
The Morrisons are described as a "blended family" of four children A MealTrain page has been set up for the Morrison Family for anyone interested in donating.
“This is a heartbreaking time for my family,” says Scott. We demand justice.”
Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw sent his condolences earlier in the day in a statement.
"The family and this community have lost two precious souls. You can rest assure, we will get through this together. And to the family, the Borough of Roselle stands with you and will be here for the long haul,” Shaw wrote.
Everoy Morrison so far is only facing charges related to the stolen BMW. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
