Little League coach charged with assaulting umpire during game

The victim told police that he ejected the coach from the game for using foul language.

A Little League coach has been accused of punching a 72-year-old umpire during a game in Branchburg.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office says that Branchburg police were called to White Oak Park on June 4 for reports of the assault.
The victim told police that he ejected one of the coaches, 40-year-old Jerry Otero, from the game for using foul language. Officials say that the Staten Island resident then punched the victim in the left side of his face.
The victim had a fractured jaw and a concussion from being hit.
Otero left before police arrived. The prosecutor’s office says that Otero turned himself in to police on June 21 around 8:30 a.m.
Otero was charged with aggravated assault and assault at a youth sports event.
