The director of New Jersey's largest LGBTQ advocacy group has stepped down amid child abuse charges.

Officials say Christian Fuscarino is accused of assaulting his foster child inside their home in Neptune City. Prosecutors said Fuscarino pulled the boy out of bed, hit him across the face several times and slammed him against a wall.

The incident last month was reportedly captured on home surveillance video that has not been released.

Fuscarino wrote that his decision to resign was made to ensure the organization's work is not impacted by what he called a private family matter.
