Gov. Phil Murphy celebrated National New Jersey Day on Thursday with a skit with social media star “The Deli Guy” of the Park Wood Deli in Midland Park.
The governor ordered the “National New Jersey Day” sandwich, which featured semolina bread, Boar’s Head ham, pepperoni, Genoa salami, provolone, New Jersey tomatoes, lettuce, red onion, salt, pepper, oregano and oil and vinegar.
Some facts about New Jersey to celebrate:
• The Dutch founded New Jersey’s first European settlement in 1660.
• New Jersey was the third state to join the Union and was admitted on Dec. 18, 1787.
• New Jersey’s first governor was Federalist William Livingston who served from 1776 until 1790.
Famous New Jersey natives include inventor Thomas Edison, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, musician Bruce Springsteen and actor Jason Alexander.
