Gold's Gym in Lawrence is using its clients' weight loss to help feed the hungry.
Six weeks ago, about 100 gym members signed up for a new workout program called "Your Loss is their Gain." For every pound someone in the program loses, a dollar is donated to the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.
Each dollar donated equals about $10 worth of food for a family. Trainers say the cause has helped motivate some participants to get big results.
"Somebody has actually lost 49 pounds," says trainer Joe Casanova.
People who are interested in taking part can still sign up. The gym will hold its final weigh-in on June 1 to determine the total amount of donations.
The "biggest loser" will also win something else - a trip to the Caribbean.
