Large brush fire in Lakewood shuts down Parkway for hours

The large brush fire in Lakewood Sunday shut down the Garden State Parkway in both directions near Exit 89 for hours.
The travel roadways reopened Sunday evening, though the on- and off-ramps off at Exit 89 remained closed off late into the night.

Police tweeted the fire was at Airport Road and Cedarbridge Avenue, but other towns became affected as well - including closures in Brick along Route 70. One westbound lane remained shut down late Sunday.
Route 528 was also closed off earlier but has since reopened.
The thick plumes of smoke could be seen for miles as crews worked on the ground and by air to get the fire under control.
Officials say the fire was 40% contained as of 10 p.m.
They say one firefighter was injured, but he is in stable condition.
"This fire jumped up really quick and went because we are really dry right now and there's high way," said Ray Bukowski, DEP assistant commissioner of Natural and Historic Resources.
