With a heat wave expected to hit the Garden State this week, it’s important to provide extra care to lawns and gardens.
Hot weather can be damaging to lawns and could create some brown patches. News 12 New Jersey’s Lauren Due talked to experts on ways to keep grass green and alive during extreme heat.

Best time to water the lawn

The best time to water your lawn is during the evening hours. Ken Holman, of Anderson Hoyt Irrigation, says this is better for the grass because it's got time to soak into the ground. He says sprinklers can be helpful during the day, too.

Cutting the lawn during extreme heat

Stephen Bolesta, of Bolesta Landscaping, says to be safe when cutting grass in extreme heat.
“Do not cut the lawn as frequently as you normally would, you know, hold off a couple days. It's not really growing anyways. You could damage your lawn especially if you have a heavier mower with bigger tires,” Bolesta said. “My guys all wear long sleeve shirts all day, big hats to cover their necks. Sunscreen as much as possible. And just hydrate. It's hot.”
Experts say to keeping watering those lawns. It might look brown, but they say everything will come back.
