The landlord of a Jersey City building was issued a citation after nearly a dozen people fell ill from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill tells News 12 New Jersey that inspectors will continue to go after Trendy Management, the company in charge of 168 Harrison Ave. That location was the site of a carbon monoxide leak that sent 11 people to the hospital. Six people, including a pregnant woman, were in critical condition.
News 12 has learned that Trendy Management has about 60 properties in Jersey City, many with serious recurring issues.
News 12 visited one of Trendy’s buildings on Montacello Avenue and spoke with residents who say that they are not surprised to hear about the issues at 168 Harrison Ave.
James Nieves says that his door does not close properly and hasn’t for nearly four months. He says that he pays Trendy Management $1,100 a month and also has issues with his windows and water heater.
Vernal Ransom says that his apartment is infested with vermin. He says that he had to put down spray foam to keep rats out of the apartment. Random says that there are dozens of things in the building that were supposed to have been fixed but have not been taken care of.
Morrill says that city inspectors have "issued more than 1,000 violations for housing, health and fire code violations over the past several months” to Trendy Management. The violations were for dozens of their properties.
News 12 has also found out that Trendy Management is a new name for the company. The company recently rebranded amid the complaints. Calls to Trendy Management were not returned.
