The people who run an Ocean County brewery are using their skills to help the people of Ukraine.
Icarus Brewing in Lakewood will soon make a beer to help raise money for the war-torn country. The brewery is teaming with Pravda Brewery in Ukraine, by taking the recipe for one of their beers and making it in New Jersey.
“They posted up a few recipes – one was for their strong golden ale. Some things were very similar to what we do here and some things were very foreign to us and we adapted as best as we can,” says head brewer and owner Jason Goldstein.
Pravda Brewery is located in western Ukraine. The owners and staff have ditched brewing beer to defend their country, help keep people fed, and use their bottles for Molotov cocktails.
Goldstein says that Icarus Brewing’s collaboration will help relief efforts. They plan to begin brewing the beer later this week and release it in mid-April.
“We’re going to be donating 100% of all of our profits from it to Pravda Brewing and their humanitarian efforts, as well as their kitchen, as well as to another charity that will help both refugees and those still in Ukraine,” Goldstein says.
The beer will be available at the Icarus Brewing taproom, in cans and at local restaurants. The exact release date of the beer is not yet known, but will be announced soon.
