A Paterson teen was sentenced to three years in prison for sucker punching a city resident in an incident that was captured on video and posted online.
Kristian Gonzalez, 18, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on Aug. 31. He admitted to punching Paterson resident Cesar Najera in the head without provocation. Gonzalez's friend allegedly filmed the attack and the video was posted on social media sites.
Gonzalez was 17 at the time of the attack. As part of the plea deal, he will serve his time at a juvenile facility.
The teen must also pay Najera $1,499 in restitution for medical bills and lost wages.
Najera addressed the court during the hearing and expressed his gratitude to law enforcement officers for their help in the case.
