Kean University is expecting to see the number of student applications for next fall to start rising.
That’s because out of state students are going to be offered the same price of tuition as in-state students.
The current tuition for undergrads at Kean is just over $15,000.
For graduate students, it's just over $18,000.
On the campus in Union Township, in-state students who are currently enrolled in classes say they like the idea.
“I think Kean as a whole is very affordable which I appreciate, and I think everyone should have the opportunity to pay that,” said Jordan Haynes a senior at Kean.
“Especially the way the economy is set up right now. A better chance for people to finish and actually get their degree," said Yasmeen Lipscomb, a junior student.
University officials say they’re looking to make a global impact with this decision which will enhance recruitment.
The decision highlights Kean’s mission of affordable, high-quality education while strengthening recruitment.
