A New Jersey university is the first in the state to debut a cutting-edge new major.
Kean University is offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in artificial intelligence. It’s more than chatbots. At Kean, students are building artificial intelligence that solves problems.
One student is working on a way to detect guns in public places beyond metal detectors. Another took a live look at parking on campus. A third is using cardiac signals to replace facial recognition.
"It's a unique signal, and it could be used for security purposes, such as replacing passwords and being able to log in with just your cardiac motion,” said graduate student Alejandro Chavez-Mayoral.
"It's not just ChatGPT, or whatever large-language model you can run on the internet,” said junior Daniel Cachola. “AI is embedded - it's called applied AI systems - into everything."
AI moves fast - and Kean's Industrial Advisory Board works with prospective employers to ensure that students are learning and applying the latest developments in artificial intelligence so they're ready after graduation.
