Bail denied for driver accused of killing mother, 2 girls in Gravesend
Police sources tell News 12 Miriam Yarimi was driving on a suspended license and ran a red light when the mother and daughters were hit.

The woman accused of hitting and killing a mother and her two daughters in Gravesend appeared before a judge via video conference from Bellevue Hospital.
News 12 witnessed stepped-up police presence and multiple drivers being pulled over not far from where the crash happened. But people in the community, like Stephanie Benshimol, are afraid it's only temporary.

"This will happen again if it's not stopped. It's imperative to save another life," said Benshimol.
According to data from Transportation Alternatives, 20 people, including the victims this weekend, have been killed along Ocean Parkway.
Traffic safety advocate Amber Adler says walking is part of people's religion in the area, and her son was almost a victim on the same road.
"Even when my son almost got hit, I'm holding their hands. What else is a parent supposed to do? I feel nervous all the time walking in this area. Anytime I cross Ocean Parkway, I'm looking around as fast as I can," says Adler.
Police sources tell News 12 Miriam Yarimi was driving on a suspended license and ran a red light when the mother and daughters were hit.
An official said Yarimi has had 21 speed violations and six red-light tickets in the past two years, among more than 70 other violations.

The judge denied cash bail for Yarimi and ordered her to stay in custody. Yarimi is on a psychiatric hold.
Yarimi's attorney said she denies the allegations against her. Reckless driving and manslaughter are just a few of the charges she now faces.
