Former Gov. Jim McGreevey announced that he is reentering politics nearly 20 years after stepping down as governor in 2004. He also launched his bid for mayor of Jersey City in 2025 during a public event on Thursday.

Before being elected as the governor, McGreevey, a democrat, served as the mayor of Woodbridge.

At Thursday’s event, the former governor said, “this election isn’t about yesterday or my yesterday. This election is about our tomorrow or future. Clearly, I’ve made mistakes in my life for which I have acknowledged and apologized but I also think God willing that I can give something back.”
