JFK Airport ground stop issued as thunderstorms impact flights

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a ground stop for flights bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Sunday morning due to thunderstorms in the New York region.
Departures destined for JFK were grounded from 8:18 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. because of thunderstorm activity.
The ground stop has since lifted and according to the FAA, departing flights from JFK were experiencing average delays of 15 minutes as of 3:30 p.m.
The delays were attributed to weather-related traffic management initiatives.
