It will be a significant weekend in Raritan as the community honors one of New Jersey's greatest war heroes.
John Basilone was a Marine who fought during World War II.
The annual Manila Madness 5K Run held in his honor is scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 a.m., and then a parade through Raritan Sunday afternoon.
A time capsule was recently opened at the Disabled American Vets Monument in Newark.
Back in 1959, a box was put in the middle of the stone which was packed by John Basilone's father and sister 63 years ago.
An American flag was found inside.
The memorial stone is going to be moved to Basilone Field at the Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
Basilone, who died on Iwo Jima, was the only World War II Marine to earn the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross.
His Jersey Proud memory lives on this weekend.
