Wednesday marked 133 years since reporter Nellie Bly completed her journey around the world in 72 days and returned to New Jersey.
Bly left Hoboken on Nov. 14, 1889 to embark on the record-breaking journey inspired by the book, “Around the World in Eighty Days,” by Jules Verne.
It took her two months to travel using ocean liners, stagecoaches and trains.
Bly returned to the train station at Liberty State Park in Jersey City on Jan. 25, 1890.
The historic trip made Bly famous in the state and around the world.
