Dionne Warwick, the legendary singer from East Orange has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Musical Excellence Award category. The 2024 honor caps a six-decade career that began in 1962 when her background vocals on a Drifters track caught the attention of Burt Bacharach.
Warwick's journey from gospel music to R&B stardom saw her win six Grammy Awards and produce countless hits, including "Walk on By," "I Say a Little Prayer" and "That's What Friends Are For."
Jersey City's own Kool & the Gang also earned a spot in the hall of fame in the performer category. The band's 50-year career has made New Jersey proud.
