A business in Belmar is paying tribute to a longtime member of the community and his life of service to others.
Rainbow Cleaners on Main Street has a display featuring Don Heyniger. Heyniger died at the age of 86 in November. He is missed by many.
The owner tells News 12 that Heyniger used to come by all the time, help out around the store and tell stories of when he was in the Marines. Heyniger was so known around town, they called him "Mr. Belmar."
"We just wanted to commemorate him and his beautiful life, the service he gave to all of us. He was in the military, the fire department and people really miss him. He was a staple,” says Delia Smith, of Rainbow Cleaners
Heyniger had an interesting job in the Marines. He was assigned to the very first President Helicopter Squadron. He helped President Dwight Eisenhower get around in Marine One.
