Jersey Proud: Atlantic City hosts the Liberty Bowl football games 59 years ago

This was the first major college football game ever played indoors.

It is bowl season in college football once again. New Jersey does not have any bowl games – but the Garden State used to.
New Jersey had a bowl game 59 years ago today. Fans flocked to Atlantic City for the Liberty Bowl.
The game was between Utah and West Virginia. The game was originally played in Philadelphia. But they moved it to Atlantic City for fan comfort since it was too cold outside. This was the first major college football game ever played indoors. Utah won the game.
It was one-and-done for Atlantic City. The Liberty Bowl moved to Memphis the next year.
