A fire in Jersey City turned deadly Friday afternoon.
Officials say firefighters found one of the residents dead inside after putting out the fire inside a home on Bostwick Avenue.
Family and friends identified the victim as Carl Johnson. He was severely burned.
The fire started around 12 p.m. inside the multifamily house. Neighbors say that they started to see smoke pour out of the windows.
Johnson’s roommate was not home at the time of the fire.
“I can’t say what happened, but he was the only one in there with his dog,” says John Holman.
Johnson’s dog was found in the backyard.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
