The Jersey City Fire Department says 30 people were forced out of their homes Tuesday after an apartment fire.
Fire officials say the flames spread to two buildings.
Two firefighters and one resident were treated for minor injuries.
When fire crews arrived at the scene on Franklin Street, they got word there were people trapped in the building - including a mother and child.
"On the scene, people are screaming that people are trapped when we're responding on the radio to people reportedly trapped in the building. We got on the scene, we realized that it was a mother that was exiting the building herself. So, we just assisted her down the stairs and out the front door...We feel lucky there were no major injuries in the fire," said Jersey City Fire Department Chief Jack Johnson.
The fire department says the majority of the damage was contained to the third floor, where the roof is.
