A National Night Out event was held in Pompton Lakes on Wednesday night.
National Night Out events are held nationwide and help foster a stronger relationship between the community, police and other first responders.
Families had a chance to meet some of the heroes who keep Passaic County safe.
Some events were canceled on Tuesday due to stormy weather.
"We always get a good turnout here. It's a nice event, we're a small town, lots of people like to meet their neighbors, so we didn't want to give that up. We knew yesterday we couldn't do it because of the lighting. It's really the lighting that causes the problems,” says Pompton Lakes Mayor Michael Serra
Serra says these types of events are important for the community.
"It's also a good time for our kids to meet the police department, talk to them one-on-one, understand that they’re human beings and they have kids and families at home just like they're talking to. So that's a real important part of me, that ‘community policing’ part,” Serra says.
