An Irvington police officer found himself on the wrong side of the law Saturday and is accused of stealing evidence, which includes guns and drugs.
The Essex County Prosecutor?s office says 18-year veteran Frederick Sutherland, 49, was arrested on duty. He?s charged with second-degree official misconduct and third-degree receipt of stolen property. Sutherland allegedly stole five guns, 30 bags containing heroin and marijuana, and case files.
Authorities say they were tipped off by someone who bought some of the stolen property at public auctions.
