(05/26/06) BROWNS MILLS ? Two children from Iraq will receive life-saving treatment at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills.
The children are in the U.S. through a program called Children of the World. They will undergo treatment for their conditions at no cost to their families. A boy, Omar Kana?an, will receive treatment for a heart condition that could be his last shot to live. Doctors will attempt to heal another child, Sara Mohammed, for her heart problems stemming from rheumatic fever.
Both children are getting treatment not readily available in their home country. Kana?an?s mother says she hopes to leave the U.S. with a healthy son. According to his mother, frequent trips to the doctor in Iraq were a harrowing experience due to increased violence. The mother says every time she left home for the doctor, she wondered if it would be her last trip.
