The reported rise in crimes among juveniles in the Bronx and city has many officials wondering what is causing the increase.
According to a Daily News report, juvenile crime was up 17 percent in 2005. Cops add iPod thefts fueled a 26 percent increase last year in teen-on-teen robberies. Police officials say an anti-graffiti campaign led to 90 percent more juvenile arrests last year in criminal mischief.
Meanwhile, serious crimes are reportedly down by 6 percent in Bronx and city schools. However, less serious crimes are reportedly up by 2 percent. Police officials say school crime is down because of the Impact Schools Program. Schools in that program see an increased number of police officers on campus and a no-tolerance attitude.
