(08/16/06) TEANECK ? Investigators are pouring over parts of the tractor-trailer that was involved in a fatal New Jersey Turnpike accident in Teaneck on Monday.
One part of the truck that is of particular interest to police is the Electronic Control Module, commonly known to investigators as a black box. Much like the black box on an airplane, the module can record specific information about the truck?s engine prior to an accident. The black box can record the truck?s speed, RPMs, braking and acceleration if it is monitoring an engine problem prior to the accident.
Charges are still pending against the truck?s driver, 46-year-old Dimitrios S. Tseperkas of Port Jefferson, N.Y. Four people were killed and four others were injured in the six-car pileup. A 2-year-old girl was among those killed in the crash.
