Workers at a Newark garbage transfer station made a gruesome discovery mixed in with the trash Monday.
The Essex County prosecutor says the remains of a 6-month-old baby were found at the transfer station on Frelinghuysen Road. The body parts were found mixed with garbage inside the solid waste transfer and recycling building. A medical examiner?s report revealed the infant is a female, either white or Hispanic.
Police are now trying to find out where the remains came from. They are also trying to locate the mother of the infant. Authorities say the investigation will be difficult because the transfer station takes in garbage from both New Jersey and New York. Anyone with information should call the homicide squad at 973-733-5400.
