Immigrant boycott planned to show impact in Bronx, city
? Immigrants rights advocates gathered at City Hall Thursday to spread the word about a boycott.
Organizers expect thousands of Bronx and city immigrants to stay home from work and school and to not shop on May 1. Advocates compare their efforts to the Civil Rights struggle. They believe the boycott will highlight the impact this population has on the city. However, some economists claim their numbers are too small to affect the economy.
Organizers will meet in Union Square on May 1 and say they are not pressuring workers to leave their jobs.
