An Illinois man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine into New Jersey in a case federal prosecutors say resulted in the largest methamphetamine seizure in state history.

Marcos Cesar Acosta, 47, most recently of Chicago, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Camden to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer announced.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Acosta traveled to New Jersey on April 28 to supervise the delivery of hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine transported by truck.

Federal authorities said law enforcement officers arrested Acosta and another alleged co-conspirator after the truck arrived in New Jersey. Investigators seized three black storage boxes, a duffel bag and a garbage bag from the truck cab containing more than 260 pounds of methamphetamine.

Prosecutors said the conspiracy charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum penalty of life in prison, along with a fine of up to $10 million.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 17.
