has revealed evidence of shocking behavior by members of the Elizabeth Police Department.
In footage shot as part of the investigation, officers in uniform and others can be seen drinking in a parking garage near the police station. What?s even more shocking is the source of the alcohol for the garage bash. In the video, one of the officers tells those in attendance that he got free beer for the occasion by shaking down and intimidating the owner of a local business.
In addition to drinking, the investigation revealed destructive behavior is also a staple of the garage gatherings. The video shows one party ending when a man takes an object, possibly a machete, and smashes the windows of a city-owned vehicle. In a separate incident, someone is seen throwing a beer bottle at a passing squad car.
Both Elizabeth Police Director James Cosgrove and Mayor Chris Bollwage refused to be interviewed about the undercover investigation. Elizabeth Councilman Bob Jaspan, who looked at the I-Team?s footage, says he is shocked by the officers? behavior. He says he wants an investigation into the matter.
