Work on the Hudson Tunnel Project in North Bergen is continuing to advance through several major construction steps reached so far this year.

The Gateway Development Commission says the project is moving forward on both sides of the Hudson River and is preparing for the tunnel‑boring phase.

One major step was the completion of the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge and utility relocation project in North Bergen.

The bridge structure opened space underneath for tunnel‑boring machines to be assembled, and crews finished paving and road striping earlier this year.Parts of the first tunnel‑boring machine have arrived at the construction site and are being prepared for assembly.

A second machine has shipped from the factory, with components expected to begin arriving this month.Crews also finished building a watertight underground wall for the Hudson County access shaft.

Excavation at that site is expected to start this spring.Along the Hudson River, crews have begun installing pipes and building a platform over the water near Manhattan.

The platform will support ground‑freezing work needed before digging begins. The cofferdam in the river has been moved closer to Manhattan, and workers have resumed strengthening the riverbed inside it.

In New York City, workers poured concrete for the tunnel floor in one part of the Hudson Yards tunnel structure, with tunnel wall construction underway.

Officials said the progress shows the project is maintaining momentum as it moves closer to tunnel boring.
