New mandates are on the way when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine, and it's going to impact a lot of people. President Joe Biden says about 84 million private sector workers will be impacted by the mandate.
The federal government set the deadline to Jan. 4 to get vaccinated or get ready for weekly testing. This mandate applies to employees of large corporations meaning businesses with 100 employees or more.
Osha says companies should provide paid time off for employees to get vaccinated and sick leave for side effects. If you don't, you'll have to get tested weekly.
Also announced, a requirement that health care workers at facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid are fully vaccinated. The rule applies to more than 17 million workers at approximately 76,000 health care facilities, including hospitals and long-term care facilities.
These new requirements were initially previewed by the president in September. While health experts say it's a critical tool to protect workers, some critics say job ultimatums are dangerous for the economy.
