Hospital detox programs are helping Bronx residents suffering with alcoholism kick the habit.
Dhoevil Laurie says he used to drink all day, even missing work, before he joined a program offered by Jacobi Medical Center. Doctors give out questionnaires to evaluate the severity of participants? addiction and offer inpatient or outpatient care. The program is open to Bronx residents 18 and older. North Central Bronx Hospital also offers voluntary help.
Laurie says he has been sober for 11 months and he owes it to the detox program.
