Well, we're celebrating the holidays on News 12, and Thanksgivings about a week away. News 12 New Jersey's Lauren D is getting us ready at Twin Pond Farm in Howell. Lauren. Yeah, this is the perfect start to the morning. We're gonna learn a little bit about the history of Twin Font Farm. We have brothers here, Gary and Chris. So walk us through this history because it didn't open up here yesterday. No, we started in 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, um. And uh then we moved over to Old Bridge and uh from Old Bridge we moved in 46 to Howell Township where we stand right now um and that we've been family farm for four generations. We have uh you know, a lot of young blood and good heart into this industry and we love what we do. And Chris, how is it working with your brother? It's been working for a long time. Uh, now it works well together. It's actually great now that all the kids are working too, so it's, it's a lot of fun. I mean, you get your ups and downs, but it's uh. There's nothing like it. And speaking of ups and downs, it's been incredibly dry. How has that affected the farming here? It's been extremely tough this year, tougher than normal, you know, with the drought we've had right now, it's been really hard. And also, you know, the, the cost of growing material and labor costs, everything's been up, so it brings profit margin down really low. It's tough to be a farmer, definitely not easy. More and more farmers are going out of business. It's a shame. We're losing land. We're losing, you know, people that have been doing this for generations that just can't financially keep it going anymore. Yeah, and obviously this year making it really difficult, but you have this market here that's open year round, right? We are, we're, we do shorter hours in the winter, but we have it all year round. We're open here. We'll do we'll end our. Garden Center with Christmas trees and then we'll we'll continue here with our pies and homemade doughnuts and all of our delicious sandwiches so we'll be we're here all the time if you want to come in and come in and see us. Hey you know what Chris Gary, we're gonna do that all morning. We're gonna be making doughnuts. They're gonna be pies. We're gonna go into the farm. We'll show you all around this morning. Yeah, Nick, it is breakfast time, so let's do it. We're making pork roll egg and cheese behind us and of course we're making the doughnuts. So Erin, tell us about your doughnut operation here. um, so we work our doughnuts right in the middle of the shop. Everyone can watch us make the doughnuts. We make the apple cider donuts all year round, all year round, not just in the fall. That's right. Um, and then next week we have to make over thousands of doughnuts for Thanksgiving holiday. They can order it on Twinpondfarm.com and just come in and pick it up. You know we were talking before. I was saying, you know, everyone wants the pies and the doughnuts this year for whatever reason. The doughnuts are so popular. The doughnuts are so popular. They're very good. I can't stay away from them. And so you're gonna be busy making them all, uh, yeah, all week long, all week long, all year long we make them all the time. And how's the breakfast sandwich too? I see the pork roll going on right now. Yes, oh, our breakfast and sandwiches are fresh, freshly cracked eggs, all the ingredients. and everything's so good. So the doughnut mixture, they're apple cider doughnuts, yes, so they're apple cider doughnuts, um, and then during some holidays in certain seasons we'll make different kinds of doughnuts like pumpkin and blueberries. All right, what do you say we try one? Should we do it? Are you gonna let us, Lizzy? Let's do it. Can we, can we give one to Rich too? Look at this here. This one's for you, Rich. There you go. He's also eating a chocolate chip muffin too, by the way. Here we go. Let's try it. They are warm. There you go, like you take the bites. That's a huge muffin, by the way, too. Good quality. And we are celebrating the holidays on News 12. Thanksgiving is a week away. It sure is. News2 New Jersey's Lauren D is helping us get ready. She's live this morning at Twin Pond Farm in Howell. Lauren, you made some doughnuts. How about some pie? I know Nick and Sima. I gotta know what pie you want for Thanksgiving because I have every single pie you could possibly dream of Chris and Gary here. OK, so how many pies do you have? What are you holding right now? We have about 25 different varieties right now. This is a cranberry apple pie. We will ice this before we put it out, but we have Dutch apple. We have our blueberry crunch, which is very popular for Thanksgiving. I find that so that's what my husband wanted for Thanksgiving. And I'm like, who eats that, but you're saying a lot of people do. Yeah, we do have the regular blueberry, but honestly I think we probably sell more blueberry crunches. Yeah, it's very popular. Alright, there you go. Yeah, it's probably one of our top 10 pies or top, top 5 pies. I one of the top 5 I would say Apple, Dutch apple, uh, blueberry crunch, pumpkin pumpkin's big high, um, and then the, uh, you know that coconut custard would probably be your top. That is delicious too. And you also have a sugar free one, yeah, yeah, sugar apple, yeah, people love them, yeah. It's definitely, uh, people enjoy our pies. They line up at the doors for them. My dad's favorite is the coconut custard though. All right, so there you go. I enjoy hanging out with you guys, but you're telling me you're not twins. So where did the name Twin Pond come from? OK, all right, Gary. So we started in 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, and then we moved to Old Bridge, um, and then in 1946 we moved to Howell. My grandpa sold the farm in Old Bridge because there was no water on it. Had a hard time irrigating, um, and the farm on Howell had two ponds. It was a twin pond. So we named Twin Pond Farm for more ponds. We had two ponds on there, so we had plenty of irrigation. Uh, the most valuable thing on farming is irrigating. Um, it was really tough years ago not to, and this year coming up, we'd be out of business. We didn't have to irrigate anything that we irrigated, we got some crops out of it. It was unirrigated crop, we lost it. It was impossible. No, no rain all season. It has been such a tough, tough, tough year. But at least you got good pies. Oh, we do have awesome, yeah, yeah. And with the countdown to Turkey Day underway, we're celebrating with the holidays on News 12. News 12 New Jersey's Lauren Dew is getting us ready for Thanksgiving at Twin Palm, uh Twin Pond Farm in Howell. Lauren, take it away. It is so hard to say it twice. Ready? I'm ringing the bell for service. If you want to fast forward through Thanksgiving, we got you covered for Christmas. We have Gary, we have Chris Device. All right, what do we got going on? We got Christmas Christmas trees Fraser first. This is one of your better trees to get, holds your needles the longest. We just got them in recently. We'll be getting more into. we're actually going to get all these prepped in water standing here so this way when you come you get a super fresh tree with this year. Yeah, so New Jersey trees very dry. So where did you have to go this year to get the tree this year we got them out of these came out of Canada. They have definitely more more rain that season. They did very well. They're in perfect condition. They were just cut like 2 days ago and they'll be cutting them throughout the season for us fresh. That's nice. And you're going to put them in water so they can. We're going to get these all prepped in water for people so this way when they come they'll be nice and hydrated for you. Amazing. And if you want to get something custom decorated, we do all sorts of custom decorated wreaths. We do centerpieces, of course we do gray blankets and to, you know, give our, our love to our our ones that are lost and to keep them warm for the winter. Everything is custom made. Come down and we can make you something special for someone. We went in the back there and the decorations. It's crazy. There's bows everywhere. We have a whole production line that we make. We make everything here with a large variety of bows and all kinds of decorations. We try to make things that are extra special for everyone and you know what, you can come down here with the kids too. You're telling me Santa Claus is coming. We'll have Santa on Saturdays and Sundays here. You'll be able to sit down, bring your camera, take some pictures, and enjoy maybe a nice warm doughnut and some hot chocolate with Santa. It doesn't get much better than that. Kids will love it. The doughnuts are pretty good. They are delicious. We're going to send you home with some doughnuts. Whole year, you know, the field looks fantastic though. This looks pretty good. Thank you. Thank you. So what crabs do you grow this time of the year? We're doing the broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, your college kale, you know, lettuces, all the lettuces, like there's a lot of crap. All are full squashes are still out, you know, the acorn butternut, spaghetti squash, there's a lot of everything you need for Thanksgiving. Oh, we got it all. We got it all. pies, doughnuts, and fresh vegetables. we're we're just pulling up to the broccoli field pretty soon here. We're gonna go pick some broccoli, guys. Let me know if you need some.
