Hoboken city officials broke ground Wednesday on Maritime Park, which sits along the waterfront at Sinatra Drive.
The location of the park is the former Union Dry Dock and will soon be transformed.
It’ll create one continuous walkway along the Hudson River in Hoboken.
There’ll be an open lawn, a skate park and educational piers.
It will also allow for unobstructed views of the Manhattan Skyline.
“Maritime Park will benefit our children, our children’s children and generations more. With a new skate park, a living shoreline, a public plaza. Community building, unbelievable views,” said Mayor Ravi Bhalla.
This park was years in the planning. City officials were able to push aside entities who wanted the land for themselves.
That includes the New York Waterway Ferry, which wanted the property to build its main refueling and repair hub.
“We were up against big money powerful connected interests, and we won,” said state Assemblyman John Allen.
Construction on the park is expected to be finished in three years.
