A fire burned a Highland Park temple, but it didn?t diminish the congregation?s faith for the start of Rosh Hashanah on Friday.
Members of the Highland Park Conservative Temple have turned the Highland Park High School cafeteria and auditorium into a makeshift synagogue for 800. Congregants say they still have plenty to be thankful for as they ring in the Jewish New Year. Members are using Torahs salvaged from the temple, which was damaged in August by a fire that started in the basement.
The congregation will use the school through Sunday and members plan to return for Yom Kippur.
