High rip current risk in effect for parts of Long Island amid heat advisory
Officials are urging swimmers to be
extremely careful and swim only in areas with lifeguards due to
dangerous rip currents.
A rip current warning is in effect for Long Island through Tuesday evening, and the chance of encountering one is high.
Rip currents are channelized currents of water flowing away from shore at surf beaches.
