Hermine churns up strong riptides at Jersey Shore
As Hermine makes its way up the Eastern seaboard, in Mantoloking the winds are intensifying and the waves are kicking up. Swimmers are being asked to stay out of the water because of the dangerous surf and strong currents.
Coastal flooding and beach erosion are the biggest concerns during the storm. Preparations in New Jersey coastal communities have been underway for days.
One Mantoloking resident told News 12 New Jersey that he is not taking chances with this storm, especially after losing his home and business to Hurricane Sandy.
Emergency officials are asking homeowners to secure all outdoor equipment and furniture, and have an emergency go-kit ready.
Hermine isn't expected to bring much rain, but the coastal flooding from the strong system sitting offshore could potentially be major, forecasters say.
Hermine made landfall as a hurricane in Florida last week before weakening to a tropical storm. It brought flooding and power outages to parts of Florida and Georgia before churning up the East Coast.
