The City Council held a hearing Friday on rent stabilization laws in an effort to extend them past their April 1 expiration.
Earlier in the year, City Council members and housing advocates rallied in support of renewing the rent stabilization laws. The City Council is now pushing for more laws to address what it calls an affordable housing crisis in the city.
While most tenants say they can?t afford their homes without rent stabilization, some landlords claim the laws have prevented them from making a decent living. Council members and tenant advocates plan to rally at City Hall, where the meeting will be held, to show support for renewing the laws.
