(02/14/06) IRVINGTON ? Last month?s closure of Irvington General Hospital did not put an end to medical services at the facility.
A medical clinic run by Newark Community Health Care Centers is still operating out of the hospital building. Clinic workers, who serve many uninsured residents and Medicaid recipients, are attempting to let patients know services are still provided at the usual location. Employees at the clinic say they?re staying put, and they try to drive that point home to every patient visiting the facility.
Clinic employees are also trying to let uninsured residents know they don?t need to use a hospital emergency room as a primary care doctor?s office. They say the clinic can handle all primary care services for uninsured residents. The health center receives federal funding to treat patients in poorer communities.
