Hazmat crews are flushing out sewer systems and performing cleanup operations in Linden Monday following a weekend tanker accident.
Firefighters evacuated several homes and businesses after a gas tanker spilled approximately 8,500 gallons of gas Sunday. The incident occurred at the corner of South Wood Avenue and East 20th Street. The driver of the truck, who did not sustain any injuries, was ticketed for reckless driving.
Once the sewer lines are cleared of vapors, representatives of the fire department say they should be able to turn all utilities back on. It will then be safe for residents to return.
