The Hambletonian Stakes, the biggest day of the year for harness racing, brought crowds of people to the Meadowlands racetrack on Saturday.
The winner of the race will go home with $1 million.
The Hambletonian has been held since 1926, but the Meadowlands has been its home since 1981. A recent contract extension means the Hambletonian will still be run at the track through at least 2023.
Last year's state budget included $15 million in funding to help New Jersey's horse racing industry.
